Tom McPhail to Chair Consumer Engagement Policy Council

October 10, 2017

We are pleased to announce that Tom McPhail, Head of Policy, at Hargreaves Lansdown and Nicola North, Distribution Change Manager, Protection and Investments at Nationwide have been elected Chair and Deputy Chair respectively of the Consumer Engagement Policy Council.

They take over from David Moffat, Group Executive, Business Development, at DST Systems and Kate Webber, Head of Product Solutions, at Calastone who have overseen the establishment of the new council following its launch in March this year. David and Kate had previously been Chair’s respectively of the Wrap & Platform and Distribution policy councils that were merged to form the genesis of the Consumer Engagement Policy Council.

David and Kate have made exceptional contributions to help in the development of TISA’s strategic policy thinking and assist in the identification of practical operational solutions in these key areas. In particular, we thank them both for their counsel and support as we refocused the policy councils to put the consumer centre stage.

The main objective of the Consumer Engagement Policy Council is to advance the interests of consumers in the pursuit of a financially resilient future. This is in the belief that it is to the benefit of society if we focus on measures to make saving and investing easier, more secure, and more approachable for everyone.

Tom and Nicola bring a wealth of consumer savings and investments experience and expertise to the council covering platform and High Street operations. This will be particularly beneficial as the council continues to support TISA’s response to the Financial Advice Market Review and the need to provide guidance to the 42 million of the UK population who are estimated to need it. Other important areas of focus for the council include smarter communications/vulnerable customers and changing the savings culture amongst millennials.
